system in the body that helps maintain balance and stability (homeostasis) in various biological processes.

It uses small signaling molecules called autocoids to send messages between cells.

Autacoid molecules, including endocannabinoids, are produced locally, act locally, and are metabolized locally.

The eCS was only discovered in the 1990s, so it is a relatively new area of scientific understanding.

Homeostasis and Inflammation

Homeostasis refers to the body’s ability to keep things like temperature, immune response, and other processes within a healthy, balanced range.

Inflammation is a sign that the body is out of homeostasis in order to deal with foreign dangers like a virus and when the invading danger is destroyed homeostasis tries to restore balance.

The eCS helps regulate the body’s inflammatory response to bring it back to a healthy state.

How the eCS Works

The eCS has three main components:

Signaling molecules (autocoids like anandamide and PEA)

Enzymes that create and break down the signaling molecules

Receptors on cells that receive the signals

These components work together in a complex system to maintain homeostasis.

Aging and the eCS

As we age, the millions of parts in the eCS can become less effective, leading to a loss of robust homeostasis.

This can result in chronic, low-grade inflammation, which can cause tissue and nerve damage, and if it is not resolved, can become chronic systemic inflammation resulting in many age-related issues like arthritis.

Supplementing with certain molecules like PEA can help restore a healthy, balanced eCS and reduce chronic inflammation.

The key takeaway is that the eCS is a vital system that helps the body maintain balance and stability, and understanding how it works can provide insights into managing age-related health issues.

INTRODUCING THE SCOPE AND IMPORTANCE OF THE eCS

Below are four links courtesy of Phytecs to help explain this in more detail. Please be aware that you will be leaving the PMI website if you select any of these links. You are, of course, welcome to return at any time.
1. Signaling at the Synapse – This explains how the signaling works at the lowest level of a cell.
2. Inflammation & Tissue Injury – This explains how the immune system is signaled to attack invading bacteria, viruses abrasions and cuts to tissues, etc. It is the job of the immune system to send its warrior cells to the place of ‘injury threat’. This process is called the inflammatory response. It should last only as long as the threat exists. The eCS will signal the immune system to stop its attack when appropriate. When the eCS is not fully functioning, the inflammatory response may last longer than necessary. This may result in debris from the attack remaining leading to secondary low grade inflammation leading to chronic tissue damage and pain.
3. Stimulating the eCS – This presentation shows how how different parts of the brain and body include the eCS and how it functions in different parts of the organism.
4. The eCS in the Skin – The skin is our main defense against the outside world that is filled with constant dangers to our wellbeing. Because of its major importance to our survival, the skin has its own eCS as well as its own immune system.

What is Homeostasis?

Homeostasis is the process of keeping all the chemical reactions in the body balanced and working properly.

It’s like the body’s way of maintaining a stable, healthy internal environment.

The eCS and Homeostasis

The eCS is the system in the body that regulates homeostasis.

It uses special signaling autocoid molecules called endocannabinoids to help keep all the body’s processes in balance.

Chronic Inflammation and the eCS

Chronic inflammation is a sign that the body is out of homeostasis and the eCS is not working properly.

When the eCS is not functioning well, it can lead to chronic conditions like arthritis and other age-related problems.

The Importance of the eCS

The eCS is a relatively new discovery in medicine, but it’s actually an ancient system that has been present in mammals since early evolution.

This suggests the eCS is biologically very important for overall health and wellness.

How the eCS Works

The eCS uses natural signaling molecules called autocoids to regulate many different biological processes, like temperature, mood, appetite, and the immune system.

These autocoids can interact with special receptors in the body, like CB1, CB2, and CB3, to influence how the body functions.

The interactions between different autocoids and other chemicals, like terpenes from plants, can create an “entourage effect” that makes the system work even better.

The key takeaway is that the eCS is a crucial system for maintaining homeostasis and overall health, and understanding how it works can provide insights into managing chronic conditions and promoting wellness throughout the lifespan.

PMI is following development of new all natural approaches to anti-inflammatory compositions that utilize the eCS, i.e., PEA, that completely avoids any involvement with NSAIDs, Opioids, Steroids or Cannabis.

About the Endocannabinoid System (eCS) What is the eCS?
